The journal is designed for professionals in academia, industry and government interested in research issues relevant to design practice. Papers emphasize underlying principles of engineering design and discipline-oriented research where results are of interest or extendible to other engineering domains. General areas of interest include theories of design, foundations of design environments, representations and languages, models of design processes, and integration of design and manufacturing. The set of journals have been ranked according to their SJR and divided into four equal groups, four quartiles. Q1 (green) comprises the quarter of the journals with the highest values, Q2 (yellow) the second highest values, Q3 (orange) the third highest values and Q4 (red) the lowest values. The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'.
It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is. Year SJR 1999 0.372 2000 0.369 2001 0.515 2002 1.571 2003 1.573 2004 2.760 2005 0.528 2006 0.600 2007 0.523 2008 0.754 2009 0.627 2010 0.953 2011 1.032 2012 1.587 2013 1.268 2014 1.241 2015 0.991 2016 1.489 2017 1.024. This indicator counts the number of citations received by documents from a journal and divides them by the total number of documents published in that journal.
